Looking Back

He started moving out of their old house
The day they laid her down to rest
One by one he packed the photographs,
The poster bed, the cedar chest
As he moved her full length looking glass
In the corner was a note
And through his tear-filled eyes he read
    The tender words she wrote

    Chorus
    Looking back over my life
I could not have wished for more
And looking back if you lose sight of my love
    That’s what this mirror’s for
Just stand where you are in plain view
Won’t take but just one glance
And you will see what mattered most to me
    Looking back

He stood there for a while the smile upon his face
    Reflecting ‘cross the room
Till he could almost swear that in the air he caught
    A trace of her perfume
All at once his image faded
    And hers appeared instead
He reached out and took her hand
    And listened as she said

    Chorus
    Looking back over my life
I could not have wished for more
And looking back if you lose sight of my love
    That’s what this mirror’s for
Just stand where you are in plain view
Won’t take but just one glance
And you will see what mattered most to me
    Looking back

Just stand where you are in plain view
Won’t take but just one glance
And you will see what mattered most to me
    Looking back
