Two Day Auction
Daddy came back from the mailbox with a flyer in his hand
Said, the O’Bryant farm was going down, they’re gonna subdivide the land
He threw the leaflet to the wind, walked toward the barn shaking his head
And as that paper hit the ground I could see the words he read
1st Chorus
There’s a two day auction, everything must go
First each head of Holstein cattle, then every tractor, plow and hoe
Just then the hayloft door swung open and I heard daddy say
There’s a two day auction too often these days
Mama told us at supper, back when her and daddy wed
These Carolina cornfields kept a lot of people fed
She said, there’s more and more mouths to feed then there ever were before
And though the farms are few and far between they keep tearing down one more
2nd Chorus
There’s a two day auction, everything must go
First each head of Holstein cattle, then every tractor, plow and hoe
As we cleared that kitchen table I heard mama say
There’s a two day auction too often these days
Bridge
That night after I said my prayers I sat there in my room
And wondered what this world was coming to
3rd Chorus
There’s a two day auction, everything must go
First each head of Holstein cattle, then every tractor, plow and hoe
As I stand here where my farm once stood I can still hear my folks say
There’s a two day auction too often these days
There’s a two day auction too often these days
